FLATLANDS EXPERIMENTAL TYPE
This experimental typography project is based on the Flatlands exhibition featured at the Whitney Museum of American Art in 2016. The typography is inspired by the paintings in the exhibition which include qualities of illusionistic scenery flats, containing objects, figures, and environments with an aspect of realism, but have been exaggerated, flattened, simplified, or recontextualized within the compositions. The custom, experimental typography was then applied to a catalog design that reflects the same dimensionless design qualities.
